The Wentworth Street Bridge replacement project has been successfully completed after nine months of extensive work, culminating in final landscaping, delivering a significant upgrade to the crucial crossing over Rocky Ponds Creek.

Funded by the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Bridges program, the project replaced the outdated timber bridge with a modern concrete structure designed to improve safety and traffic flow for local residents and visitors.

The new bridge is higher and wider, offering enhanced clearance and capacity, addressing longstanding safety concerns, and facilitating smoother traffic movement. Delivered by Council’s Works Department in collaboration with specialist contractors, the project was funded with $1,068,000 from the Fixing Country Bridges grant and was successfully completed under budget,

As part of the final phase of the project, drainage work was completed around the bridge abutments to ensure effective water management. Landscaping efforts included the installation of new turf and the planting of trees along the adjacent batters, helping to restore the area and enhance its urban environment.

Mayor Margot Davis commented on the project’s completion, “The replacement of the old timber bridge with a higher and wider concrete structure represents a significant improvement for both local residents and visitors.”

“This project, commenced under the previous Council and now completed not only improves safety but improves the streetscape and contributes to our beautiful parklands," she said.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government and is supported by Glen Innes Severn Council.
