Over the coming months (October 2024 to March 2025) Council will be undertaking spraying on its road network to kill grass and weeds on the road ahead of scheduled road grading of gravel roads and bitumen sealing of sealed roads.
As a courtesy, Council will provide a letter box drop on rural unsealed roads after spraying as a record in the event of livestock grazing the road formation. The herbicide to be used on the rural unsealed roads will be a Roundup UltraMax which has a nil withholding period for livestock. Council will spray all urban sealed roads on as as-needed basis over the summer months and will be trialing a natural acid based alternative herbicide but reserves the fight to utilise Roundup of performance dictates.
As per the Northern Tablelands Council's Pesticide Use Notification Plan provides notification for spraying of roads and verges on its website (under Public Notices Section) and Facebook page. For spraying adjacent to sensitive places, (schools, childcare facilities, hospitals, nursing homes etc.) and/or parties who register interest with Council prior to notice by phone, mail or letterbox drop will be provided at least two (2) working days beforehand.
A list of unsealed roads scheduled to be sprayed is available on the links below for roads located in the north of the LGA and south of the LGA respectively impacted by this program.
